Soluble fiber improves glucose management

Soluble fiber improves glucose management

November is National Diabetes month and with over 10% of the US population affected by diabetes, it is a disease that is front and center on my mind as a provider.

What's more alarming is that, per the CDC, "approximately 88 million American adults - 1 in 3 - have prediabetes. Additionally, more than 84% of people with prediabetes don’t know they have it."

Chronically elevated glucose levels lead to tissue damage throughout the body, affecting every organ and increasing risk for virtually every chronic disease state.

While dietary changes reducing sugar, refined carbohydrates and processed foods are a surefire way to improve glucose control, we all know that significant dietary change is tough. That said, prevention and glucose management is also possible by increasing intake of soluble fiber by eating beans, lentils, avocado, flax and chia at each meal or by adding a simple serving of Florasophy soluble fiber.

The fibers included in Florasophy:

1. Slow digestion to decrease blood sugar spikes
2. Increase satiety to prevent overeating and snacking
3. Have been shown to reduce waist circumference and BMI
4. Improve other biometrics associated with metabolic syndrome such as cholesterol levels and hypertension
